Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) has announced plans to open a Taj-branded hotel in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, as part of a greenfield project. This move aligns with IHCL’s strategy to grow in emerging markets with high potential.
The new 150-room hotel, situated centrally in the city, will include amenities such as an all-day dining restaurant, a bar, two specialty restaurants, and a J Wellness Circle spa. Additionally, it will feature over 10,000 sq. ft. of flexible event space. IHCL’s Managing Director, Puneet Chhatwal, noted that Kanpur’s designation as a smart city and its recent infrastructure improvements make it an attractive location for this venture.
Abhishek Singhania, Chairman of JK Urbanscapes, expressed enthusiasm about partnering with IHCL to introduce the Taj brand to Kanpur. This new hotel will increase IHCL’s presence in Uttar Pradesh to 26 hotels, including 13 currently under development.
