Grand Blanc man wins Michigan restaurant industry’s highest award

Bill Wentworth Jr. received the Distinguished Service Award from the Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association on Sunday.

Bill Wentworth Jr., a resident of Grand Blanc, has been honored with the prestigious Distinguished Service Award by the Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association for his exemplary leadership within the state’s restaurant industry. The award was bestowed upon him during the annual Chairman’s Dinner on Sunday, acknowledging his outstanding contributions to the industry. Wentworth Jr., serving as the vice president of Miller Apple, oversees the operations of 23 Applebee’s franchises and two Sonic drive-ins across Michigan.

Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association President & CEO Justin Winslow praised Wentworth Jr.’s determination, foresight, and resilience, noting how these qualities have not only ensured the success of his company but also positioned it for continued growth amidst challenges.

The story of Miller Apple traces back to 1993 when Bill Wentworth Sr. established their first Applebee’s outlet on Miller Road in Flint Township. Since then, Miller Apple has expanded its footprint, with additional Applebee’s and Sonic locations spread across Michigan, including the Upper Peninsula.

Emphasizing a commitment to community engagement, Miller Apple frequently collaborates with charitable organizations, schools, and local events in the areas where its restaurants are situated. Wentworth Jr. remains at the helm of this family-owned enterprise alongside his sister.
